[chronicle] Sustainopreneurship - Now on Wikipedia!

SustainopreneurshipiWikipediaScreenshot

I spent the afternoon yesterday, making the final edit for the since-long-way-back intended Wikipedia Entry on 'Sustainopreneurship'. In some ways possible to do ever since I got published with my contribution to the VHU conference proceedings published 2006, making it formally researched and peer-reviewed by senior researchers in that volume. But I awaited two authoring rounds more, before firmly finding it able to publish to meet the rightfully high standards of Wikipedia - especially on new concepts (as some referred to as neologisms before entering mainstream vocabulary). The tentative definition in the VHU publication was tried-and-tested through the Master Thesis in 2007 using the Enactive Research approach, and then followed by a conference article on prospective future research on Sustainopreneurship. This last article went into the loop of post-editing and peer review to finally be published in a book, printed and delivered September 15, 2008 (that will be blog covered separately).

This last event was the turning point for me - now I had a firm foundation of three rigorly scrutinized academic publications, feeling comfortable enough to defend the article, and activate my account on Wikipedia. As expected, a quick note from a seasoned Wikipedian beyond the publishing (those citizens who contribute to the living dynamic community-authored encyclopedia) tagged it with the "original research" stamp, since a quick read of the article make the Master Thesis an all too dominant part of the core content on the conceptual development, making it look like I want to popularize the Master Thesis. No, that was not the case, and I objected on the talk page, stating 1. The term was not coined by me. 2. There are two ISBN-catalogued and peer-reviewed books containing my contribution meeting academic standards. Beyond the editing (I shortened the notes on the Thesis to make it more proportional in the chronology of events in the development section, and I replaced the direct link to the Master Thesis with the Google Scholar Search on Sustainopreneurship, and added ISBN numbers together with direct links showcasing the two books), I took away the template and tagging of the article.

Beyond this, it has been untouched and not questioned, and I hope it will stay that way. Now, 24 hours later, it has been viewed 54 times.

At the publishing moment, I was listening to the end of the first hour of Markus Schulz Internet radio show Global DJ Broadcast from October 9 [tracklist - download], Deadmau5's version of the Title Music from A Clockwork Orange movie by Stanley Kubrick, originally the Funeral Music of Queen Mary II by composer Henry Purcell. Aptly titled "Clockwork" [YouTube].

The drama of that song, and the Anthony Burgess original dystopia with the term Ultra Violence coined, made a great illustrative turning point to the historical moment, where the "hive mind truth" and common sense meanings of the world we have been trying to understand the last 200 000 years as Homo Sapiens reflected by Wikipedia recieved my donation to the knowledge of humanity. Where I want to turn the state of Ultra Violence towards ourselves and our planet to Ultra Peace.

Beyond the adding of the knowledge to the hive mind, announced through a Tweet stating it as my Gift to Humanity on World Poverty Day, four minutes after the publishing, and adding my instant defense of the article at the Wikipedia Talk Page, I was resting and listening to the news. To my surprise, I saw a news flash from the Traditional Circle of Elders meeting at Flathead Lake, Montana from Swedish TV4 - and I realized when looking at the website today that they were the only TV Broadcasting Company allowed to be there [report here - swedish narration, but interviews with chiefs and leaders in english]. Traditionally, these annual meetings of all the tribe and spiritual leaders of the Native Americans dating back over thirty years, have been closed for "the White Brother Man" as they say, but some years ago they decided to open up and share. The increasing concern with Global Warming and the nature catastrophes increasing in intensity and numbers of later years made them decide to share their message with the world and the white man. Oren Lyons was there [interview, longer and in English, with Oren Lyons from TV4 and the meeting], who I had the honor to meet at the big Envisions conference in Västerås 2002. Back then he ended the whole 500+ peeps conference with the words "Action Speaks Louder Than Words".

And that wraps up my posting on the story on my Wikipedia Entry. It started out as action without words by the turn of the millennium early 2000, then I stumbled upon a concept illustrating my deeds in 2003, and now, 2008 beyond three crucial publications, it is time to take this word even further in proliferation. Not focus on the talk in the spirit of the word, but to actually shut up and do something. A concept is a concept, and an idea is an idea, and nothing is as practical as a good theory. But what matters is how we apply it. Also, what I have learned, is that it is by hands-on application and action we can learn a lot more about the concept.

Now walking my talk, by exactly shutting up, and end with a link.

You know which ;).

UPDATE [JULY2008]: Summarizing Progress of Sustainopreneurship and Personal Research Advancements

Hi, patient reader,

It has been along time since I fed this blog with some new really simple syndicated material. If there are some subscribers left, thank you for your endurance :).

My life has undergone some quite dramatic shifts on the private side, that made much of the stuff stand on a halt, and with my intention communicated in October last year (*phew!*) to post more regularly here in notes format, and move the academic heavy stuff to the iÆREAS blog just got postponed. But with recent stuff breaking through (also mostly on the private side!), I now feel confident to try to summarize what happened since last time. This bulleted list of events will be followed up with more extensive coverage in the more research-oriented iÆREAS blog at 300~500 words each entry, one separate posting per headline below, so this is just what happened, not so much the content. Links will be added in updates when respective blog article has been written.

The FSF Book - book chapter undergone last edits this past spring

The collaborative effort to publish an anthology on enterprising for local and regional development has undergone the last edits from the author group, and is now in the hands of a language checker, and will be published this Autumn, 2008. Working title for the book is "Bridging the functional and territorial view of entrepreneurship and regional development", where my contribution is named "Sustainopreneurship - Business with a Cause. The Promise of Creative Organizing for Sustainability", and is focused on a gross list of emerging research questions to deepen the understanding for and knowledge of sustainopreneurship. An abstract of the book chapter can be found at the publishing page of iÆREAS - http://iaereas.weebly.com/publishing.html. [UPDATE 20AUG2008]: The final language corrections and short bio now submitted, book is set to be printed and released in conjunction with the "Entrepreneurship Week" arranged by FSF 15-19 September 2008 in Sweden on tour, with kick-off and biggest event in beautiful Tylösand, Halmstad - "The 4th International Entrepreneurship Research Award Winner Conference".

FSF Young Researcher's Workshop, Jan 22, 2008

In January, in conjunction to the Small Enterprise Days in Örebro, preceding the big 500+ attendants event, was a little group of ~20 researchers gathered to present their current research projects. I contributed with three pages in paper and a powerpoint presentation on what prospective research I can do related to sustainopreneurship, and I got some decent advice and feedback to what would be viable and pragmatically researchable. The outcome of that workshop had a direct implication that I narrowed my gross list of research questions to a net list, focusing sustainability innovation case studies to increase the understanding of the core of the concept, more on this at the iÆREAS blog to come.

FSF Small Business and Enterprising Days, Jan 23-24, 2008

From that little and intimate context followed the biggest singular event related to recent advances of research on entrepreneurship and business development for the general public in Sweden, in Swedish "Småföretagsdagarna 2008". The conference took place in a big congress hall in Örebro, and besides the big plenary sessions there were also small, topical workshops in two-figure number to choose from. It was the first time Sustainopreneurship was mentioned to a larger group offline in a popular context focusing non-academians, when the FSF book was presented and introduced. Some of the authors had special presentations on their respective contribution. A small workshop was also held in conjunction to the big plenary session, where I got the chance to present my contribution to the book in a minute or so. In general to mention, the conference had many things related to social entrepreneurship, so the topic is increasing in attention.

One special thing to mention is that it got announced that my mentor, tutor and professor Bengt Johannisson (Växjö University/Jönköping International Business School) got awarded the FSF-NUTEK Award on Entrepreneurship research, as the first Swede to get it - once again, congratulations! I live-blogged about it here!

14th Annual International Sustainable Development Research Conference in New Delhi, 21-23 Sept, 2008 - Paper Accepted [UPDATE: But will not go to India]

After the hectic days in Örebro, I received an invitation from ISDRS (www.isdrs.org) and the annual conference I attended last year, and taking the advice from the workshop in Örebro as mentioned, I narrowed down the research formulation, and contributed with an abstract following the guidelines from Örebro. It suggests a deeper research on Sustainability Innovations, to systematize them in a general framework, and identifiying key dimensions on sustainability innovations. The paper introduces the SEEDS model as a way to guide us where to find key areas for sustainopreneurial applications. I got notified May 20, that my paper was accepted for a presentation. The abstract is available at http://iaereas.weebly.com/publishing.html. The title of the conference article is "Towards a deeper understanding of sustainopreneurship - identifying core dimensions and aspects of sustainability innovations". UPDATE [20AUG2008]: Due to lack of sufficient funding I will not contribute with the full paper and go to India this time.

Umeå University/Mälardalen University, Meta-theorizing the Sustainable Economy, in Umeå, June 10-11, 2008

In a workshop jointly arranged by Umeå University and Mälardalen University by Professor Peter Dobers, MDH and PhD Tommy Jensen, USBE/UMU, "Meta-Theorizing the Sustainable Economy", I got invited to present my works on Sustainopreneurship and future research. Mainly a powerpoint presentation and version of the intended conference article in India [UPDATE - 20AUG2008: The trip to India will not be there, see above], I went through the current state of ideas and thinking, and presented the tentative model to systematize the sustainability innovations. I will write about the feedback at the iÆREAS blog in a separate entry.

Included in the Ashoka University Network Handbook on Social Entrepreneurship Education and Research

One special recognition I got in March was to be included in the volume “Social Entrepreneurship Teaching Resources Handbook”, published by Ashoka's Global Academy for Social Entrepreneurship and edited by Debbi Brock (Berea College), Marina Kim (Global University Academy Program) and Susan Davis (Global Academy Chair), for faculty involved in teaching and/or research in social entrepreneurship. A first version of the Faculty Directory was published in August 2007.

Recommendation letter from professor Bengt Johannisson from March 17, 2008

In March, I also got a special testimonial and endorsement from my professor, Bengt Johannisson. It recognizes my capabilities both as a teacher, researcher and practitioner, and of course I am very grateful to get it. I will blog about it separately to give it respect. I hope it will be in support especially for finding teaching, mentoring and coaching opportunities as well as future research options. A jpeg preview is found here - click thumbnail to enlarge.

Future developments - iÆREAS build-up, conversation net-spots and Social Enterprise Category at Ki-work

The immediate future actions is to more systematically advance the iÆREAS venture focusing research, educating and learning related to sustainopreneurship, especially focusing membership recruitment, and let the conversation be stimulated through the community related. As for now, there are three spots online mainly focused;

To advance the setup of the ÆREAS organization, a dedicated Ki-work project has been set up at http://www.ki-work.com/ki-project/aereas/. It is in need of 150 Founding Members in its interim stage, aiming at constitution third quarter 2009. Ki-work will also be the main window for the freelancing and consultancy I do through SLICE, see http://www.ki-work./ki-profile/andersabrahamsson.

[UPDATE 20AUG2008]: There is a need for sustainopreneurship applied, in a wider sense for the whole business community, and since this post was written, I have been appointed Category Leader for the Ki-work virtual platform for online freelancers in the Social Enterprise business category - http://www.ki-work.com/ki-category/socialenterprise - where an immediate need is to recruit 75 Category Experts for my business category is needed. See the project page here - http://www.ki-work.com/ki-project/ki-category-social-enterprise-experts!

For all publications so far, see http://www.scribd.com/groups/view/14181-sustainopreneurship-research.

For current SLICE projects, see http://projects.slice.nu. The action map on a general level has also been updated significantly, see http://actionmap.andersabrahamsson.info.

15 October 2007

UPDATE: Sustainopreneurship, October, 15, 2007. Blog Action Day!

Today is Blog Action Day, where thousands of people have signed up to blog about the "environment". Since I have been idle some months writing, I thought it was the best day to get back on track! Here is my take on the "environment", or "ecosystem" at large, including the embedded systems "humanity", the social system, and in turn the "economy" system embedded in that. Focus on the whole, and you will get great results in the small part you influence! Go look up a place where the light disturbance is at lowest level to see the stars in a clear night covering the sky, and conclude that you, yeah - you! - is a part of universe, and everything you do comes back to you. Karma-verse, right?

So - with that note as a connection to the Blog Action Day theme, let's limit my influence to the part of the biosphere to what has happened lately during 2007.

Sustainopreneurship - above, beyond, next level - the sky, as always, the limit

The update covers education, events, publications, a new organization, a virtual community, a new research-focused blog and a change in "blogging policy and frequency" as consequence, and immediate future, with resources needed for further advancement.

  • Education - Master of Science, Business Administration, Växjö University. Thesis Hand-In April 27, approved May 3, degree June 25.

I have completed, finally, the tailor-made little Master's program, which I spread over the years, to mix with the sustainopreneurial practitioner route of On a Mission / Ignition. What made the final point of the empirical journey was the first concluded externally recruited client collected beyond already established network March 22, 2007, which made a natural point to close the very wide circle that began in January, 2000 - the original "Ignition". Ten thousand stories later, and a few crucial, critical and main course of events defining both concept and venture in its well-research business model covered in the Thesis, made the bulk in the empirical testing of the concept first tested theoretically and analytically dry and academically from the conference 2005 and published in September 2006.

The structure of the definition almost magically made it possible to structure the story-telling as well in the auto-ethnographic/enactive research approach towards the writing and final delivery of the product. The thesis got graded 8 out of 9 (with very, very few getting 9/9 in general) - meaning close to the top grade :). I am very happy and contempt with this sense-making, where my mind now getting clear to tell the world what "sustainopreneurship" is about. Now well anchored in the academic community, close to one of the epicentres of world leading research on entrepreneurship done at Växjö University. Presto! I wish to thank all that contributed, full acknowledgement is found in the preface.

The thesis is findable both at "regular" Google, as well as the "academic", Google Scholar.
Google - general search "sustainopreneurship" - on top 3, today

  • Event - International Sustainable Development Research Society, 13th Conference, Västerås, Sweden - paper contribution, "Researching Sustainopreneurship"

As a direct sequel, I got a short-term employment of three weeks from the University, funded by Swedish Foundation for Small Business Research through my professor Bengt Johannisson who is co-chairing one of the research programs there.

The full title;

"Researching Sustainopreneurship – conditions, concepts, approaches, arenas and questions"

Download ResearchingSustainopreneurship-Abrahamsson.pdf

  • Publications - beyond - Two book chapters, One special report

Both the Thesis and the paper will be edited and published in new formats and contexts.

The Thesis, integrated and syntetisized with the conference article outlining future research and its agenda, will be published as a special report through FSF/Växjö University. The paper will be edited and adapted to fit in a book about entrepreneurship and small business contribution to local and regional development co-edited by the chairs of the mentioned research program that funded my paper in the first place, besides Bengt, also Åsa Dahlström-Lindstrand.

At the ISDRS conference, I also got invited to contribute with my works in relation to the "Base of the Pyramid" paradigm (where e. g. this blog has been featured in this context at a reference site earlier, see www.design4billions.com > BoP Library). The book will be published May 2008 - see outline and idea of the book here at publisher Greenleaf Publishing site.

The working name of my contribution is

"Sphering the Pyramid – empowering the world through sustainopreneurial events"

It will be an attempt to contrast and tie the sustainopreneurship conceptual ideas with the Base of the Pyramid idea-sphere, and thus enlarge the discource created with the BoP idea development. This is partly done by more closely examine some considered-to-be sustainopreneurial events emerging from the specific needs found in the BoP context, and also tries to more deeply coin the SEEDS acronym. SEEDS has been concluded as good areas for sustainopreneurial applications and ventures to grow from, where SEEDS stands for Strengthening of Health, Education, Entrepreneurship, Digital Unification and Sustainable Distributed Energy.

The SEEDS is also partly covered in the Thesis (especially the process which this model was researched and deeply evolved, especially through synchronicities and serendipities). The SEEDS concept is a cornerstone to guide the investments in sustainability innovations which will be made with parts of the annual results generated from the sustainable trade business Ignition.

  • iÆREAS initiated - Organizing Sustainopreneurship Research

Since the publication list now have reached a critical mass, and needs for advancement and further organizing the knowledge development surrounding this discovered phenomenon, I was branding a new organization as a suggestion of further actions from my research paper at the ISDRS conference. The future name of this will be Association for Enactive Research, Education and Application of Sustainopreneurship. As a first step, an interim association will be created. It is intended to be a multi-stakeholder, bridging organization in between researchers, educators and practitioners - where optimally all are one in one person. The Enactive Researcher and Learner (not Teacher ;). Or at least, as an influence maybe from the organization, you can become it! A website and blog was finished last week, and a closed, private invitation round commences from today, October 15!

iÆREAS Website / iÆREAS Blog

If you feel that you are interested in contributing to the research, you are welcome to contact me, done with convenience and simplicity through the website.

  • Sustainopreneur's Café - a Community for Sustainopreneurs launched!

Since much of the work the past years has rendered a far-stretched network of interested stakeholders, and the need for conversation around the sustainopreneurship concept has been identified, especially at the conference seminar this summer, a virtual community has been created, open for anyone interested. It was claimed March 21 when the community ICT platform used was launched (Ning), but will be activated now with the above created - Sustainopreneur's Café: http://sustainopreneurship.ning.com.

  • Changing the publishing flow - separating the streams, changing the frequency

As a consequence, the more research/academia/publishing oriented work will be published through the iÆREAS blog, whereas the more everydayness of sustainopreneurship, with interesting case studies, related notes and events to come in an experienced frequency increase lately, will be published here on the blog - finally living up to its name: "Notes". Thus, the more applied stream will occur here with more frequent posting than before. Time to get leverage for the concept in action, now when inception of the "next level" has been - concluded with this posting!

That, said: Now I especially welcome you to the community, taking place in the central as a key cornerstone and platform to continue the conversation and sharing/caring amongst the most proximate stakeholders, i. e. my 1st degrees from all contexts in the first round - Sustainopreneur's Café!

Free coffee on the house from yours sincerely, the Café Host, for all that joins during October :). Fair traded and organically grown, of course ;).

In a final note, I would like to make this posting a tribute to one of the original sustainopreneurs in retrospect - Dame Anita Roddick, that tragically and fast passed away in September. We will always remember that you convincingly and with endurance made the face of business as an activity in life change, for the true betterment created through Body Shop. I dedicate this posting to you, Anita! I feel very sad about the fact that I never had the chance to experience her live, whereas she had a public appearance in Stockholm at Sustainability Day earlier this spring.

Let's continue the journey that you started, to proliferate and spread the idea, applied - to create Businesses with a Cause. In the end, being the mainstream way to do business globally!

Dear reader - you're welcome to join this journey!

Peace,
Anders

"Researching Sustainopreneurship" - my abstract for ISDRS conference June 10-12, 2007, accepted!

This Friday I got a message that my intended contribution to the 13th International Sustainable Development Research Society conference was accepted. The conference stated meta-theme is "Critical Perspectives on Health, Climate Change and Corporate Responsibility".

The conference takes place in Västerås, Sweden - e. g. known for being the home of the "A" in "ABB", Mälardalen University (Mälardalens Högskola) - the first university in Europe to get the environmental management standard ISO 14 001.

The track where I will contribute is track 6: "Entrepreneurship - a key to sustainable development?". My contribution will try to capture one key aspect emerging from the essentials of the learnings of all these years of sustainopreneurship-in-action with the serial sustainopreneurship done through On a Mission, Club PuLS, Ignition and SLICE: Namely what they point to regards suggested research - "how to go on further". It follows naturally from where I ended my last scientifical research paper (defining Sustainopreneurship, blogged here) -  to provide a little bit more in detail of a suggested research agenda.

The title is:

Researching Sustainopreneurship –

conditions, concepts, approaches, arenas and questions

An invitation to authentic sustainability business forces

Research article defining "sustainopreneurship" now published!

As I blogged here, I had a research article in the loop. It is now published, and you can buy the book from the conference proceedings including my article here through VHU homepage. VHU is Föreningen Vetenskap för Hållbar Utveckling or in English "The Swedish Research Association for Sustainable Development".Temp_vhu

The proceedings entitled "Science for Sustainable Development – Starting Points and Critical Reflections" contain contributions from 39 scientists. The book is available for order at 300SEK (shipping costs excluded), appr. 32€. A pdf with cover and contents are available for download.

Contact me if you want a copy.

A popular version of my article contribution will be in an extended version with some strong illustrative case studies. My contribution here was purely conceptual in ten pages flat including reference list: "Sustainopreneurship - Business with a Cause. To turn Business Activity from a Part of the Problem to a Part of the Solution".

The book in itself provides a very broad, multi-disciplinary and deep source to the research state of sustainable development as a whole, since it contains more than 1 000 state-of-the-art references.

HubPage: "Sustainopreneurship - Business with a Cause" now public

HubPages - a new venture that uses a similar business model and approach as Squidoo - went from private, closed beta testing to public beta August 5.

I was a part of the private beta and I was setting up a number of HubPages, one of them directly a companion to this Blog.

The idea of my main HubPage on Sustainopreneurship is to have fixed, more stable content in the article form - easily accessed - to support the more dynamic feed of Blog Posts here. The main HubPages related to this Blog are quite a few, naturally, but for idea and practice I would point you to two:

"Sustainopreneurship - Business with a Cause"

It works both as a predecessor to my book chapter to be included in the forthcoming book on science for sustainable development, and also as a fixed starting point for the book "Business with a Cause". The hub page has a screen shot of the abstract of my contribution, as well as the proposed definition and some relevant links. Also, the RSS feed from this blog is added to point here.

Of the reasons above, I added this fixed link to the sidebar content of this blog.

"The Hot World Vision - A World Online?"

If the above page is dominated by ideas and theory, this one is on encouragement and inspiration of applied sustainopreneurial action. It features a vision to get the whole world online, and also presents some case studies with enablers and tools of change, some businesses focused on microfinance, solar energy and rural connectivity in the emerging economies, together with a reference on sustainable trade.

"Social-Business Networking - surviving life in between Metcalf and Dunbar"

For startups of any kind, networking is crucial - and for micro-entrepreneurs wherever they are, online networking is increasing in importance. Networking is one of the key enablers for sustainopreneurship, thus the page focused on this subject with some main references for the deeper approach on networking.

Some other HubPages are on

Comments welcome - and also, add your own content to join the conversation! If you appreciate my efforts, do click "YES" if my articles were useful for you!

For my full published list, see my profile.

Welcome to join the HubPages party!

(And yes, by the way, you get paid through contextual advertising related to your content - automatically ;) - a split in between HubPages admin and development, and a favourable 60 percent to you! The greatest advantage towards Squidoo, that shares only some of the profit, not the revenue as with HubPages - I earned more on the few days on HubPages that I have done in months of Squidoo adding - and since it was so little made on Squidoo I kept it to go all the way first to their charities of choice, and now I changed to support the micro credit movement through the charity of my choice, Grameen Foundation USA. The HubPages revenue though, goes towards the work to research sustainopreneurship further in idea, action and results, with the explicit goal to have the term with one million hits and beyond on Google before end of 2008 - stated in my HubPages Profile.)

UPDATE #1 | Aug 11, 2006: HubPages begins to generate some media attention now. SiliconBeat, the Mercury News house blog, "Hubpages helps you publish and make money; raises $2 million" - with the first coverage in the house-blog for all Web 2.0-ish buzz-creator aspirants, TechCrunch. Of course.

What's your Dream?

I would like to remind you of a paper I have done some years back, while posting the abstract of the new one in my posting from the other day.

"Have you ever thought about the Dream of a Street Citizen?" presented at the conference ICE, Växjö University, Teleborg Castle, Oct 9-10, 2002. I collected 55+ street living citizens' dreams during my stay in Uganda, 2001/2002, five Sundays in a row, October to December 2001, in a survey with eight questions. And crayola paitings as well. Let me introduce you to the wrestler!

The Research Paper final version now submitted!

I got a final feedback mostly considering language issues, and those were taken into account, and I also added some details to my research paper. The final version, now ready for print after this, was submitted to VHU, "Vetenskap för Hållbar Utveckling" or "Science for Sustainable Development", http://www.ieh.se/vhu/konferens.

Exclusive printing and publishing rights for the work is for the association, but I take the liberty to have a teaser in the form of the abstract published here (click to enlarge).

Books of 2005 and before - and 2006 to come

I sneak out some series of new posts to introduce "this new year", to begin with a pointer to the book lists I have made at the sidebar.

Three of them.

  1. One listing the most related readings recommended.
  2. One listing the most looked-forward-to readings of 2006.
  3. And one of the books that still is luring at the horizon to be published. "Business with a Cause" - that will be written in Alfa and Beta modes in a BeforeBookBlog.

By me.  Quote from sidebar;

"Enough synthetization and a strong critical mass of case studies to help also define by example, now suggests a book to be authored by me. Following the example from Chris Anderson and "The Long Tail" (http://www.thelongtail.com / http://www.squidoo.com/longtail), the intention is to write a book with a working title "Business with a Cause", and the book will be written and published in Blog Format, Open Sourcing it and allowing for dialogue and comments, before getting published in full. It begins with a "lens" powered by Squidoo. Add RSS Feed from this "Notes from a Sustainopreneur" blog to your feed reader to get notified when this separate BeforeBookBlog will be launched."

As announced, a starting point and an embryo of a intro/abstract/synopsis is found at http://www.squidoo.com/sustainopreneurship - a dedicated lens, complimentary to this blogstream of Notes on sustainopreneurship, preceeding the lengthier work-throughs of book excerpts thrown out in the blog-o-sphere during 2006.

But I guess I will buy a new Moleskine (in the Recommended Reading list...) in support for the jotting :).

Sustainopreneurship - the Book

  • The Book Blogging Process
Book-related posts have [book: part name] in Title and categorized 'Book Blog Posts - Business with a Cause', together with their part number and name, 'Part N. The Name'. Comments on the drafts are collected through this Book Blog, and through the virtual community, 'Sustainopreneur's Café'. A related group on the community has been created, and a wiki for draft collection and outline as well, see below.
  • Working Title: 'Sustainopreneurship - Business with a Cause. The Whys, Whats and Hows of Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Sustainability'
A book on Sustainopreneurship is in progress, sourcing content from popularized and re-edited academic publications, new research focusing case study collection and stories, and crowd-sourcing through community: blog comments and through the Café (virtual community) below. Read more about earlier, current and future publishing through the link above.

  • The Book Group at Sustainopreneur's Café
The book group over at the virtual community 'Sustainopreneur's Café' at Ning notifies when whole sections and chapters have finalized in chunks of 3k to 20k words, and getting ready for peer-reviewed and crowd-sourced feedback. This stage occurs when article-level contributions in 500 words and less have been blogged and commented.
  • The Book Wiki
Here is the wiki for the book. This is the place where Collecting and Editing Outline, Synopsis and Content gets done, and in the end the whole book will be published online as a final stage before the PDF and ready-made print version.
  • The Final Step: Book Group at Scribd - ready-made with layout (PDFs)
The final step in the writing/book-making process is the layout, taking the content from the book wiki and doing the design and formatting, ready for print and download. Chapter by chapter, then part by part, and finally the full book in its full manuscript.
