As of yesterday, the fight for our attention we bring to different places in the Web World is stepping up, following maybe one of the biggest IPO's in modern time, the one of Google.
Google had the www.gmail.com buzzzzzz created with 1GB of free mail web space in your Inbox (Hotmail bye bye! 2MB? You are silly!), but also some coming lawsuits from privacy and judiciary activists who created a raging cry when they wanted to integrate the AdWords with the Message Body and placing "relevant" ads according to what you and me write to each other in mails.
Shame! I agree! Optional, yes, with permission. But without asking me? Nada, Google! A deal-breaker for me, Google!
So what was the response from Yahoo with this move in the ever-so increasing "free web mail" market?
And also connecting it to portal experiences and finding your share of wallet like shopping and affiliates etc, the Yahoo Biz model?
The answer came yesterday.
100 MB free - and a whopping 2 GB - yes g-i-g-a-b-y-t-e only for $19.99 a year!
AFP NEWS HERE
Gosh. 1 000 000 pages. That is around 2 000 volumes of Encyclopaedia Brittannica in my inbox, accessible everywhere. The whole folder of ON A MISSION venture dating from four year's back is 600 MB...no need to worry anymore down to 2% of my inbox space used, down from 90+ % and archiving all the time in my now perceived microscopic 50MB now being history.
But!
I WANT VALUE ADDED SERVICES NOW!
I really hope that Yahoo sees the obvious (click to enlarge);
Integrate other Yahoo services - and log in to your total everyday Yahoo life making all administration go virtual!
That would be a dream for me - and others too I guess.
A full-fledged web editor, linking images stored in Photos, using doc's from the Briefcase and organizing your Mail attachements totally seamless - and what about a strategic partnership with Typepad, to have the wonderful features of online designing of your blog to go further on using the same technology of editing your web page like we do here. Having one page for your blogging too? And then, of course, having full Application Service Provision for the whole Office package...and in the future also for the designer of all kind, Photoshop, Illustrator, whatever. Having a web page created as easy as making a powerpoint, publishing it immediately, with all this space shared in a partitioned two part server space for you - one accessible public, and one accessible private. Just come up with it! Who knows?
And - preparing to go Wireless with the soon omnipresent HotWorld instead of just HotSpot at a café or HotZone Corporate/College Campus. Terabytes thru the air using the Wireless Access Payment System of cPort with an omnipresent laptop or the "never to come" www.oqo.com or so? (Just wondered what happened to that, by the way - they obviously created some buzz at the CeBIT in the US now ending in May.)
And - including your whole archive of mp3's, videos, online magazines, Internet Radio streamed and creative Cartoons Scott McCloud style with BitPass sold music on the go if you want to add new mu-sic to your archive - or radio - or video - or whatever...experience! Better make it a sustainable one, though...avoiding a blind hunt of just spending time, having the experience perceived with meaning and depth...
So!
THAT could be structuring the future a great deal!
---
Hope for the developing marginalized part of the world
And especially - in the future also including the one's who want to organize for sustainability in the South, having the non-included to make pay-per-service model with fractions of costs with all kinds of small flat-rates for the micro entrepreneurs having the Digital Unification - the ICT 4 Development Real Way :). Digital Divide in the history!
Can the Renaissance-Like spot of Silicon Valley generate some real hot distribution of opportunities for Empowering Everyone with these combinations of resources and innovations, of both services and products?
Mind, body and spirit - with that, there is no Scarce Resource that limits ourselves, if we get the space for our creative mind. Maybe this combination can make that more obvious.
OK, do you take the challenge, Yahoo?

EDIT: Added some few links more in the combinations of resources in this vision, June 17
Yahoo Mail to Yahoo Vision - or "what shall I do with my new 2GB virtual hard drive"?
